2009-2010 Season
The final horn sounded and Grand Rapids was victorious. What a way to end the year. I don't know what color actually won the final game but hats off to you. Thanks boys for a great day. I had the chance to see some outstanding team play by both teams and was very pleased on how far the kids game this year. A very special thanks to Charlie Barrette. Here was a player who didn't make the traveling team but when I asked him I wasn't sure how he would respond and whether he was interested in playing, he didn't hesitate to say yes. What a competitor and a great person. I am so proud of the boys and want to say thank you for making Charlie feel so welcome. Barretteavic' was a part of TEAM-O-VIC'! I wish each and every player a most joyful spring and summer.

One last thought before you go onto your next activity. The offseason is the time to work on your "individual" skills. May-October is the offseason for youth basketball team play. Don't wait to be told to work on your shooting, freethrows, and dribbling skills, plus we will not be there telling you not to take the shot, look to pass first, share the ball, etc. etc. etc. When you're practicing by yourself or with a buddy, there isn't a bad shot. I recall watching an 8th & 9th grade player 4-5 years ago during the summer working on his shot at the "Y". In his senior season he helped lead his GR HS team to the State Championship game. It isn't a guarantee that if you do work on your skills you will get the championship game in your senior season. But I do guarantee that if you don't work on your skills to become a better basketball player it will be very difficult to accomplish similar results! All the best. Coach Tony & Dan.

Thanks to Pat Namyst & John Rajala for always willing to volunteer and help keep the scorebook.

Tony Baker...I couldn't ask for a better person to coach a team. Thank you for making the season so enjoyable. I appreciate the effort and commitment you gave to the boys every practice & game this season. I wish you and your family a great summer break and we'll see you next season! Dan

Final Week of Season
Thanks for participating in the Chisholm tournament this weekend. While we looked a little rusty from the layoff, it was great to have a tune-up for our final tournament this coming Saturday.

Reminder to bring an extra set of clothes to change into on Saturday. I will collect uniforms after the final game.

Go Thunderhawks
Best of luck to the Grand Rapids Boys team heading to their schools' first basketball championship final. Grand Rapids will take on the the St. Paul Johnson Governors on Saturday at 6 pm from Target Center. Congratulations on two outstanding wins at State. Enjoy the moment boys. Dream Big! Amazing what a team can do when they believe in themselves and don't care who gets the credit as long as the team wins!
